Neigh!

Well, I'm a Christian, and a girl, and I did ride a horse a few times last summer, so I guess it's only natural that I like Christian horse girl music!

For those of you not deeper into the k-pop scene than my third-grade frenemy was into the horse scene, Christian horse girl music is a term k-pop fans use to describe a certain kind of music which is innocent but not too cutesy---often, it was called "power innocent" before the horse girl term caught on---which more often than not makes prominent use of classical instruments and/or nature imagery. Almost all Christian horse girl music is made by girl groups---although I'll get into an exception soon.

The members of the groups tend to wear either flowy dresses or school uniforms, the latter of which you can see in the above photo. That's CSR, one of the groups most synonymous with the concept, and the leaders of its recent resurgence. The concept was most prominent from around 2015 to 2017, when groups like GFRIEND first popularized it (and GFRIEND and still perhaps the definitive Christian horse girl group), but soon fell off as cuter and more innocent concepts in general fell off in favour of "girl crush" concepts. In the interim, very few Christian horse girl songs came out. However, around 2022 and 2023, groups such as CSR and ILY:1 debuted with more Christian horse girl-style concepts. This, combined with a wave of nostalgia for the concept due to a fatigue with the overpoweringly dominant girl crush concept, led to a resurgence of the Christian horse girl concept.

I'm a really big fan of this concept---it's just so refreshing!! It's happy, upbeat and optimistic, all things that I am and strive to be. It's super girly, which I often am as well. It's cute without being cutesy, a more relaxed form of cuteness proving that the two don't go hand-in-hand. I like cute aesthetics and feelings myself, so I really click with the concept. It's really just the antithesis of the dark "noise music" that is popular in modern k-pop, though there's nothing wrong with that, and is really uplifting. If I were to debut as a k-pop idol somehow, this would definitely be one of the concepts and genres I would gravitate towards. These bubbly songs are so fun to listen and to sing along to. I love them!
