I will follow! I've loved this show since elementary school, when I watched it with my mum when there were reruns airing. I actually remember bonding briefly over this show with a girl I never spoke to otherwise in fifth grade! Of course, at that age I was nowhere close to understanding any of the references the show makes, and even now I don't get probably a good third at least, but something about this show drew me in nonetheless! I think it must've been the atmosphere. Everyone always describes this show as home-y for a reason!
Anyways, whatever drew me in drew me in enough that when the Year that Shall Not Be Named (a.k.a. 2020 to normal people) came around, I rewatched it all using my mum's DVDs! I had a running quotes list of my favourite quotes. Some of freshman Lizzie's favourites include:
I think Gilmore Girls straddles the line betweeen comedy and drama really well, having elements of both but blending them into its own dramedy genre such as I seldom see done elsewhere---the k-drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo is the closest I've ever seen, and even that got a little heavy-handed with the drama at one or two points, but then I suppose Gilmore Girls did have its own peaks.
Overall, Stars Hollow just feels like a place you want to escape to, you know? I'm sure you do. And, although my music taste would most definitely not meet the Girls' approval (if they laughed at Lindsay for liking Michelle Branch, I'm sure they'd laugh at me for liking k-pop), these characters feel so familiar to me that I can't help but imagine myself as their friend/relative/maybe even girlfriend in a certain fellow's case. But I'll talk more about him in his own page.
And none of the major characters is perfectly good or perfectly bad---they're all a mixture, as real-life humans are! Save for the literal Jesus Christ, we're all a mixture of both, and I think the creators executed that wonderfully, which I think helps make these characters feel ever more real and familiar to me.
This is my happy show! Rewatching it recently, it's not quite as drop-dead funny as I remember, but nonetheless I love it and always will---perhaps even more now. Gilmore Girls for life!
