My Fish!

I am a proud mother of fish! As of the 30th of April, 2023, as far as I can tell I have roughly twenty, though maybe a few less, but at some time in the past I've had forty or so! My family's had fish for as long as I can remember, including, notably, Squiggy the pleco (named after the Laverne & Shirley character, and because he was black with white squiggly lines), who lived for at least fifteen years (we don't know exactly because he lived with my aunt before she gave him to us and he refused to die until sometime in the early-to-mid 2010s. Right now, since 2021 I have a dynasty of fish (yes, I've given them a title as well, no, I'm not a normal teenager, thanks for asking), who I will show y'all below! Also pictured below is my whole tank.

Fish!

Elizabeth, Dowager Duchess of Margaritas

Species: Platy

Status: Deceased

Owned: 2021-2023

This is Elizabeth (full name: Elizabeth Alexandrina Mary Victoria Georgiana Charlotte), who was the Dowager Duchess of Margaritas and the matriarch of the bunch. I got her and her "husband", William George Louis, the late Duke of Margaritas, on the 21st of May, 2021, and she died in October 2023, so she lived for about two and half years in my care, meaning she was up there for platies! She had really won my heart and I was quite sad when she went. I don't know if I'm imagining this or something, but I feel like she was more calm and dignified than the younger generations. She liked to hide out in one of the plants and sleep, and to swim around leisurely.

William, 1st Duke of Margaritas

Species: Platy

Status: Deceased

Owned: 2021-2023

This is William (full name: William George Louis), of whom I don't have a picture right now. This is partially because they looked very similar I only started trying to tell him and Elizabeth apart conveniently right before he died, and whilst I think their bottom fins were different sizes, now, of course, I can't be sure. I think I should have a picture of him and Elizabeth, though, so I may add that someday. Anyways, I created him Duke of Margaritas in my prerogative as Queen of the Fishtank, because why not, and George ended up being his adoptive son. I don't remember William being super fast on his fins either, so I suppose the late Duke and the Dowager Duchess were a good fit for one another.

George, 2nd Duke of Margaritas

Species: Platy

Status: Alive

Owned: 2023-2023

My first fish named by me that doesn't have a middle name! We almost weren't going to get him when my mum and I went to Petsmart and got Mary and Beatrice, but I couldn't choose between the three fish we were looking at, and so we ended up buying all three. He wass quite the charmer, evidently, since he had quite a few babies, but not nearly as zippy as his wife and sister-in-law, though he was still a rather active fellow. Sadly, he became a widower tragically young following the sudden death of his wife Mary, and he has also lost a sister-in-law. Eventually, a few months after his wife's death, he himself died, suffering from a similar condition but with unknown origins.

Mary, Duchess of Margaritas

Species: Platy

Status: Deceased

Owned: 2023-2023

This was George's "wife", and one of a pair with her sister Beatrice, who were both golden, although Mary's back tail was more reddish-orange compared to Beatrice's, which is more golden. She was a really energetic fish, and was really fond of zipping back and forth freakishly quickly around the tank with her sister. She sadly died young after getting stuck in a little grass decoration and not being able to get out for long enough that the snails nibbled a bit on her fins. She survived the night after that, which was really surprising, but she died shortly after. :(

Beatrice

Species: Platy

Status: Deceased

Owned: 2023-2023

Mary's little sister, Beatrice! She had the less bold, more golden-orange fins compared to her late sister. She and her sister would often get all zippy dash around the tank at almost scary speeds, and she still did occasionally after her sister's death. She seemed to have taken quite a liking to this little sunken-treasure type hideout/decoration we have in our tank! She was quite the lively little fishie, and had a tonne of children, who I believe might have even had their own children eventually, thus starting an overpopulation problem that was what, from what I can tell, led to her untimely illness and death. These two sisters' tale was tragic, but I'm glad to have had them.

More fish coming soon! Once the kids start growing up, I'll add them (at least the ones I can distinguish---there's at least ten, and that's only the babies!) here.
